<div style="text-align: center;">
Great news! Marie is expecting a brother or sister in July. I'm 4 months along now and already enjoying preparing the new nursery. The theme of our baby's room will be our beloved home country, The Netherlands.<br />

</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Not a big surprise, seeing the canal houses in the picture above.....</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
More about them later in a new blog post. Today I"d like to share with you how to create the changing pad cover I put together the today.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I made it with waterproof canvas. The kind you normally use to cover your outdoor dinner table. Not a very thick one, which made that is was still easy to fit and to handle. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNNUNvPuyKkVTd-nI6Cmfo1gsSo0mWyQV2UgSUkTJYOXsptayCr421QMLKQCQR4WZ3bWvKKeGMYKcx0IfGKnpWquw9P1TAr3Hk77NT40O27NqLNOe6-Bz1xTRNvmgHbn81uMyah3jf7j0/s1600/3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNNUNvPuyKkVTd-nI6Cmfo1gsSo0mWyQV2UgSUkTJYOXsptayCr421QMLKQCQR4WZ3bWvKKeGMYKcx0IfGKnpWquw9P1TAr3Hk77NT40O27NqLNOe6-Bz1xTRNvmgHbn81uMyah3jf7j0/s1600/3.jpg" height="291" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I love this simple design. It reminds me so much of my favorite restaurants at home. Which often have this fabric as curtains. These restaurants are called 'Pannenkoekenhuizen'. Translated; Pancake Houses. They are a Dutch specialty, which I can highly recommend when you visit Amsterdam one day. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
They are different from the well known American Pancakes. I'll post the recipe here sometime soon as well.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiD3Ltp0T1eoGy9oNL0l3QDewl4WIpVoblPGN2mcNVEcIDYrVHUxM56bfIUql2GNCjkbJz_dwKAKVuHOihKBTohDgIOemS1RYTubngBCmilEbQPtDeqQ3GvBU9blDJhRQ_yEH0DDx5XfEo/s1600/4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiD3Ltp0T1eoGy9oNL0l3QDewl4WIpVoblPGN2mcNVEcIDYrVHUxM56bfIUql2GNCjkbJz_dwKAKVuHOihKBTohDgIOemS1RYTubngBCmilEbQPtDeqQ3GvBU9blDJhRQ_yEH0DDx5XfEo/s1600/4.jpg" height="152" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Alright lets get down to business. Below you will find my tutorial. I had big plans, but eventually settled for the handy-house-wife style instead of the style of the great sempstress. So here comes a tutorial eligible to upgrading.....</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<b>Tutorial.</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Measure all the square surfaces. Ad up 1,5cm for seam allowens to each measurement. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
For all the edges facing the bottom of the changing mattress this should be even 10cm. This will allow you to have enough material to wrap the cover around the pad and stay in place</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggQUe9NZ1Y4UbHViTF_UsUpQNTJb2mckbpg0DO0upqnCk7h9MPRDV8t_38A7GJKCh46Is8MLv9hU1SBwGeft7VMGHRYQexGPvUpKw9cb1yB5ikzld3oSADVYcNRn0mR5xg1rV0LMVpCsU/s1600/Fotor012314206.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggQUe9NZ1Y4UbHViTF_UsUpQNTJb2mckbpg0DO0upqnCk7h9MPRDV8t_38A7GJKCh46Is8MLv9hU1SBwGeft7VMGHRYQexGPvUpKw9cb1yB5ikzld3oSADVYcNRn0mR5xg1rV0LMVpCsU/s1600/Fotor012314206.png" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Trace the sides at the head and the foot of your changing pad And at the same extra cm as described earlier. To clarify there's the picture below. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjCFcxITSjr53XKChQoZ-rs7dykR0YqeNDEl1ncPwp_dv_e8vdpMKyc0wk89wJ0HABYbdmDspWl8RSVshvnlk7gnRSoQPWNhDUUijG6hFA3KJFMVaR9tXnKEwSDQEg1U5ce3pFi8DacrvU/s1600/DSCN0100.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjCFcxITSjr53XKChQoZ-rs7dykR0YqeNDEl1ncPwp_dv_e8vdpMKyc0wk89wJ0HABYbdmDspWl8RSVshvnlk7gnRSoQPWNhDUUijG6hFA3KJFMVaR9tXnKEwSDQEg1U5ce3pFi8DacrvU/s1600/DSCN0100.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Once this is done, you should end up with the following pattern pieces.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEju-ztYgmfoSm3laGsah-jJDkOVF-2w05lY613CQ9O2RKS5pSEbqolt44gqWDpSTlPIq4cKLzkOsF_wnRIYWS-vHhPGbp2qVpesjRgRrdiIW2aVgxx6Lev-FQvbV1nXDthgVlBhKfpCa4k/s1600/DSCN0108.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEju-ztYgmfoSm3laGsah-jJDkOVF-2w05lY613CQ9O2RKS5pSEbqolt44gqWDpSTlPIq4cKLzkOsF_wnRIYWS-vHhPGbp2qVpesjRgRrdiIW2aVgxx6Lev-FQvbV1nXDthgVlBhKfpCa4k/s1600/DSCN0108.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
First sew all the square parts together in the right order. Subsequently sew them to the head and foot pieces. Nice sides facing each other. Turn inside out and wrap around your changing pad.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLr8g6BxaHtnoZmsrGy0rnue6k1N8pXO5HwoBQap3VLodqf3sPLWDk2j7D50eFiEJFRzGWs2gFCl1ByrVK_gGamS533-SU12AzRfMLn3KCFvQeqZuu0hyLHWp2v95NWu8T05-zPYPPMeg/s1600/DSCN0110.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLr8g6BxaHtnoZmsrGy0rnue6k1N8pXO5HwoBQap3VLodqf3sPLWDk2j7D50eFiEJFRzGWs2gFCl1ByrVK_gGamS533-SU12AzRfMLn3KCFvQeqZuu0hyLHWp2v95NWu8T05-zPYPPMeg/s1600/DSCN0110.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here's where I made my short cut. I did buy elastic to finish it u nicely at the bottom. However, I was afraid, because of the thick material, it would get to bumpy. That's why I settled for duct tape in the end. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I'm not proud of it, but I know that it will work for me. Since I used easy to wipe material I'll never have to remove it anyway. And it does make the bottom nice and flat.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0bFLKLCaa41aNoK7_9SzH2nwSscgDDayXB8q6OYUeGzTPXisPj1l8dnDNX-l43Ns1zEE3Sg9wft6uxrDQmSEkZ1McxF5gy-NKr2wFe9Jf8BObToz9-o3gBoEWG2xjnQzdpgFgxNhrNFg/s1600/4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0bFLKLCaa41aNoK7_9SzH2nwSscgDDayXB8q6OYUeGzTPXisPj1l8dnDNX-l43Ns1zEE3Sg9wft6uxrDQmSEkZ1McxF5gy-NKr2wFe9Jf8BObToz9-o3gBoEWG2xjnQzdpgFgxNhrNFg/s1600/4.jpg" height="210" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
In May my sister is getting married. Of course she is over the moon, and so is the rest of the family. However, as most of you will know, there is a lot of stress involved as well. Being sisters you have to look out for each other and that's why I made her this eye mask. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I hope she'll put it to good use. That she will take a few extra hours of sleep and will have beautiful dreams about her big day. Beside the inevitable hours of worrying if everything will turn out o.k. ............</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhroZBl1F5xFCK7rV3FZ3rimIfBr9ZOECe1HXveLtj1VJwQcoNmT5nOTNe6UyFJ_hRlWlpSnKuZbhilRVnECdIqRtlkFSgJHwsNr5qdVJuMIQehAOQPnEWvm6Oy2-H-Y7NkRlvVrpYrkqQ/s1600/5.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhroZBl1F5xFCK7rV3FZ3rimIfBr9ZOECe1HXveLtj1VJwQcoNmT5nOTNe6UyFJ_hRlWlpSnKuZbhilRVnECdIqRtlkFSgJHwsNr5qdVJuMIQehAOQPnEWvm6Oy2-H-Y7NkRlvVrpYrkqQ/s1600/5.png" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Looking at the final result I definitely should have gone with a darker kind of thread. Unfortunately, now the text seems to disappear in the background. At least it turns out that it does its job very well. The dark green fabric at the back and the wadding I put inside make that it really doesn't let trough any light.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I made one for my friend as well. Soon she will become a mum. All the reason to rest extra during the day. Both, to enjoy the piece and quiet as long as it lasts, as to save energy to help the bay grow in her tummy right now.</div>
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQPXwi-g2iQCrmRMVeZmhyphenhyphenRqr0ImjejistkDXjNe2VNUK4Hglt4Zkr3PO5lpzvsGHW44AT2NMTCijnubjza8hMR38hL_FLt30tv29wyk6KyLOE_bKyk3zod7ie2jDHg-AALECaYOabvvs/s1600/04.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQPXwi-g2iQCrmRMVeZmhyphenhyphenRqr0ImjejistkDXjNe2VNUK4Hglt4Zkr3PO5lpzvsGHW44AT2NMTCijnubjza8hMR38hL_FLt30tv29wyk6KyLOE_bKyk3zod7ie2jDHg-AALECaYOabvvs/s1600/04.png" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Lets pray it will be many, many years before Marie her self becomes a mum! This, however, didn't stop her for trying the mask on, obviously..... </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<b>TUTORIAL</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
To make these masks I used a boring black one of my own. I traced it on an old news paper to use as a pattern. For the inside and outside fabric I added 1,5cm for seem allowens. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The wadding and the cross stitch linen I did cut the actual size. However, I gave the wadding a few hubs to be able to secure it without making it impossible to turn the mask inside out later in the process. <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjW9GB44ZlRtwD7t39P1cfsV-qFqlggyZiNaP-z0oO9WNx6LUmlD4Ya5RtlwTtxDq-JjOq6qBvIZVfgRh7JldUSG_nvG-V5UWLGT5notqVn37x8fu9vndvjUjQkRUot-mhjCH3R-E3MnYY/s1600/DSCN0015.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjW9GB44ZlRtwD7t39P1cfsV-qFqlggyZiNaP-z0oO9WNx6LUmlD4Ya5RtlwTtxDq-JjOq6qBvIZVfgRh7JldUSG_nvG-V5UWLGT5notqVn37x8fu9vndvjUjQkRUot-mhjCH3R-E3MnYY/s1600/DSCN0015.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I secured my linen on the back of the outer front fabric using fusible web. I wrote my text on the back of the linen. Which was not easy since it had to be done in the opposite direction to turn out correctly at the front.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhY47RkrVrJOAK8Y-G42cLcx7qurqZjqdS6rjiE9S7jzJYbdJkkH0wt675IzRc9v1MtEl2HNPttmTlwJIZ1YP6v1iJ_xVgYkCiTjZ3Wl81gHOCrbI6jS39eLE1ih7cz-7jJv_Y_h-BvDYo/s1600/DSCN0016.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhY47RkrVrJOAK8Y-G42cLcx7qurqZjqdS6rjiE9S7jzJYbdJkkH0wt675IzRc9v1MtEl2HNPttmTlwJIZ1YP6v1iJ_xVgYkCiTjZ3Wl81gHOCrbI6jS39eLE1ih7cz-7jJv_Y_h-BvDYo/s1600/DSCN0016.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Using an easy back stitch I traced my writing.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgL_uuyLepWt7T7XWJ_8D2ue-WOB2lijjIdtgtWNS_cNBRuMavynGUuaQy8J7aC0Lcq-ikssxIeXA7aBj8p4LVt1rFzK-hRwHtHaXr2Ok9Yj4ByFQh9S6Solf-qA3qljQcvARPrSNrBaxg/s1600/DSCN0017.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgL_uuyLepWt7T7XWJ_8D2ue-WOB2lijjIdtgtWNS_cNBRuMavynGUuaQy8J7aC0Lcq-ikssxIeXA7aBj8p4LVt1rFzK-hRwHtHaXr2Ok9Yj4ByFQh9S6Solf-qA3qljQcvARPrSNrBaxg/s1600/DSCN0017.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I covered a piece of elastic with fabric to be the strap. The outer fabrics lying on top of each other with the nice sides touching, the wadding on top of the dark green fabric and the cross stitch linen on top of the flower fabric I sewed everything together. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Leaving a big gap at the top and securing the elastic band and its cover between the different layers. Now the only thing left was to turn the whole thing inside out, close the gap and press.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

This week I received a package over the post. One of my dear friends from the Netherlands sent it to me. It contained the latest issue of <b><a href="http://www.knippie.nl/">Knippie</a>, </b>my favourite sewing magazine, some typical Dutch ribbons and a lovely little dress for Marie. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Isn't that awfully sweet! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Marlous (my friend) has a girl only two months younger than Marie. This means there's always a lot we can share. So it won't be a surprise that I do miss her sometimes.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Obviously, a present like this asks for a big thank you. So I selected my favourite fabrics and went to work.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I made Catho (her daughter) this marine theme top. I hope her daddy likes it as well, since he loves to sail. </div>

I used one of the patterns from the Knippie, which is also available as a <b><a href="http://www.knippie.nl/top-met-strik-op-de-rug-pdf-patroon">pdf pattern</a> </b>online. I think it's a lovey pattern, and I'm sure going to make Marie one or to of these tops as well. </div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
Since the overall I made <a href="http://littlemaries.blogspot.com.au/search/label/Boys%20clothing."><b>earlier</b></a> for our nephew was so easy to make, I decided to make two more for Marie.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
They are not only easy to make, but also easy to wear. I imagine...... Marie is not yet able to confirm this of course, but she does look happy enough.</div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The whole charm of making clothes yourself is that you can add your own touch. Determined to do just that I created a big heart-shaped application with the letter M on the pinkish suit. Only to discover once more that I like nothing better than simplicity.</div>

As you can see the overall still has a 'scar'. But, as scars often do, I think it only adds character ;-).</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
When we moved we didn't bring any furniture. A lot of things that we are using now we bought second hand from <a href="http://www.gumtree.com.au/"><b>Gumtree</b></a>.<b> </b>Like our dining table and chairs. They looked nice enough, but since there is not much light in our kitchen I reckoned they would do more for the kitchen in white.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The whole dining set did only cost us 80$, so I couldn't do much damage anyway. </div>

We have these lovely tiles in the kitchen, which were a perfect match with a great fabric that had caught my eye the other day. </div>

I painted the dining set and made these cushions for the chairs. Adding piping to give them a nicely finished look. </div>

For the padding I just cut up an old garden chair cushion. And using an newspaper I traced the shape of the seat of the chairs to create my pattern. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I don't have a special foot for piping with my sewing machine. However, that was not at all a problem. My sewing teacher gave me the good tip just to use my zipper foot. Which worked wonderfully well!</div>

This week my sister-in-law gave birth to a beautiful baby boy. He's called Berend. This is very Dutch. We all call him Beer, which (as you probably already guessed) means bear in English. Isn't that cute!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
As a theme for his room my sister-in-law chose stars. When we left The Netherlands she was 4 months pregnant and I had already made her a <b><a href="http://littlemaries.blogspot.com.au/search/label/Baby%20blankets." target="_blank">baby wrapper</a> </b>in grey and white with little stars.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGn17JyimF5-pTsTXwzxIxagIxYMAg0ebQtSHxjGO9TfdI0HPp3Nibuo8XGjU0E3qGz_U7thGIbimTY3qli1NohfP35Ie8pAwkBqu6PbSEFSTD9wAVfe2nYYzf9Sh4tYdRhz8LKYLcpGg/s1600/P1030766.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGn17JyimF5-pTsTXwzxIxagIxYMAg0ebQtSHxjGO9TfdI0HPp3Nibuo8XGjU0E3qGz_U7thGIbimTY3qli1NohfP35Ie8pAwkBqu6PbSEFSTD9wAVfe2nYYzf9Sh4tYdRhz8LKYLcpGg/s320/P1030766.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I deliberately saved some of the fabric for later, which I used to make him this little overall. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Using the scraps of the baby wrapper, I had to mix and match a little bit to have enough fabric to work with. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
However, I think it worked out just nice in the end. It creates a playful look.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">

For the overall I used <b><a href="http://www.simplicity.com/default.aspx" target="_blank">simplicity pattern </a> </b>5316. For the little head I used the lovely tutorial by Mira over at <a href="http://sewtlc.blogspot.com.au/search/label/Baby" target="_blank"><b>Sewing, The Little Heart Collection.</b></a></div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
For Flip The Pattern organised by the sisters Ashley and Emily from <a href="http://francessuzanne.blogspot.com.au/" target="_blank"><b>FrancesSuzanne</b></a>, I earlier made the Horsey Bubble Pocket Shorts.</div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<div style="text-align: center;">
However, this was more of a redecoration rather than a Flip of the pattern. Inspired by all the other contributors of this sew-along, I Came up with this real flip.</div>

All I know about sewing, is what my mum told me a decade ago. Inspired to learn much, much more by all the amazing talented bloggers who contribute to the Flip The Pattern competition, I took up sewing classes.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Last Saturday I had my first class, and I learned so much already!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Eager to put to practice what I had learned, and happy to finally make something that looks nicely finished, I went to work. </div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
My lovely teacher, Debra, told me how to sew a French seam and sew a neat firm crotch. </div>
</div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div style="text-align: left;">
<div style="text-align: center;">
Happily sewing my French seams I didn't realize that with my lack of experience I probably could have done with a bit more seam allowance. But I still managed to squeeze Marie in! </div>

Does that firm crotch come in handy............</div>

Sewing along with the amazingly fun initiative, <a href="http://francessuzanne.blogspot.com.au/2013/06/june-sew-along-and-prizes-flip-this.html" target="_blank"><b>Flip This Pattern</b></a>, of <a href="http://francessuzanne.blogspot.com.au/" target="_blank"><b>Frances Suzanne</b></a>, I made this Bubble Pocket Shorts of which the pattern is created by the very talented Heidi from <b><a href="http://www.eleganceandelephants.com/" target="_blank">Elegance and Elephants</a>.</b></div>

Although, forcing my own fondness of horses on Marie this way, I secretly hope she never wants to start riding herself. </div>

Busy mastering her standing skills, there is a lot of falling involved. And watching her fall down from the height of her own tiny legs, breaks my heart already. No way I can stand seeing her toppling of a horse some day. </div>

Shopping at Kmart for some winter cloths for, both Marie and myself, I was appalled again by how inexpensive some clothing is. It always makes me feel so guilty about my sewing, since a meter of fabric often is more expensive than an already made winter jacket.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It triggered me to go trough my closet to see if there were any forgotten or dismissed items that would be suitable for my sewing projects. Of course there turned out to be quite a few. The coming weeks I'll show there transformations here. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: left;">Here is a little tutorial on how to transform one of your own shirts into this sweater-shirt.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: left;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Using an upper quatre of one of your babies onesies, draw a pattern for the bodice. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUrZrQjduNeNdpvDN4HZkKx3qlmOdYwp4OkdgYNw0aeDgIsA64qs1qa5V0Q9ryS-T6bqwCdqmO6ZDGsI8YQzqhXCQEVMF1UJuQ3YMhbFQa2sh3JDf6zcC0mnAODFCYCTpUj9C1oukeN2w/s1600/Fotor0528203228.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUrZrQjduNeNdpvDN4HZkKx3qlmOdYwp4OkdgYNw0aeDgIsA64qs1qa5V0Q9ryS-T6bqwCdqmO6ZDGsI8YQzqhXCQEVMF1UJuQ3YMhbFQa2sh3JDf6zcC0mnAODFCYCTpUj9C1oukeN2w/s320/Fotor0528203228.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Cut this pattern out of the lower front of your shirt. This way the front pocket of your shirt won't be an obstacle.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBSkfm4tUbVCyL4lzUQxCpBQiBDBL87JA5L0ke2q1rwKFJbY31JwDpH5b-9c0HVThsucWro9aQL2GiMSGSai3-sk-qdomjqUyLRiovr42BJ_CM4hQVAK5ifXvqvdEhdUybHc2ebRBXFDg/s1600/Fotor0528144128.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBSkfm4tUbVCyL4lzUQxCpBQiBDBL87JA5L0ke2q1rwKFJbY31JwDpH5b-9c0HVThsucWro9aQL2GiMSGSai3-sk-qdomjqUyLRiovr42BJ_CM4hQVAK5ifXvqvdEhdUybHc2ebRBXFDg/s320/Fotor0528144128.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
For the back you cut the pattern out of the higher part of the back of your shirt. This way you'll include the pretty shoulder seam.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: left;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: left;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Cut the neckline of the front of your bodice lower than the neckline of the back. (Don't look to closely at how I did this in the picture below, since at first I didn't cut them at the same width.)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
You'll also need a pattern for your sleeves and a strip of fabric to make your own bias tape. How to do both, as well as how to put all the pieces together, can be found in the tutorial for the <a href="http://littlemaries.blogspot.com.au/search/label/Sleepwear." target="_blank"><b>sleeping bag.</b></a></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This week I made Marie a nicely warm patted sleeping bag.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiPxaxnyru_tGIt86Gbzr60NfEvEkPx1SxVRzxsuyGdJvb91LkmxpqeB-mMTKoXFmkomxMJX_Vv2KEeq7CeGTIML1_M6g1IT37PgiqIMLf_N9VUfHa4Gmw6xP3thiANgCM6XSbjxZdbS8/s1600/Fotor052290140.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiPxaxnyru_tGIt86Gbzr60NfEvEkPx1SxVRzxsuyGdJvb91LkmxpqeB-mMTKoXFmkomxMJX_Vv2KEeq7CeGTIML1_M6g1IT37PgiqIMLf_N9VUfHa4Gmw6xP3thiANgCM6XSbjxZdbS8/s400/Fotor052290140.jpg" width="332" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
As we live in the Southern hemisphere, autumn has begun and temperatures are going down. In the Netherlands, where we are accustomed to the cold weather, I had bought a nicely thick sleeping bag. I never thought it would be needed here, but it's amazing how quickly you get used to the heat. Now, 14 degrees feels cold when compared to the 43 degrees a few weeks ago.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
As we all know one suitable sleeping bag for your little one is hardly enough, since they need regular washing.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div style="text-align: left;">
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<div style="text-align: left;">
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
</div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div style="text-align: left;">
<div style="text-align: center;">
Thick, 100% cotton sleeping bags turn out to cost a fortune down here. Once again I praise my dear grandmother who gave me my sewing machine for my birthday a few years ago. Feeling good, saving some money and having loads of fun making my own design, I had a few very enjoyable hours creating Marie's new sleepwear.</div>
</div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div style="text-align: left;">
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
</div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div style="text-align: left;">
<div style="text-align: center;">
It's really easy. A pattern is not even needed. Would you like to make one yourself ? Her's the tutorial:</div>
</div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div style="text-align: left;">
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
</div>
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Take a onesie you can do without. Detach one sleeve. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTD-eLMlaxTHg5WT21fGGTlgA6CXXbWuE4jfKbRuXsfw2pER7jdTHf61FB8_yB2yiYHGqxL1VtbaBp123a_BngSKv8tuTE5frvRUOA4tfUsfnlRgIPPM2ceTejO9mC4plBcskABiolkBY/s1600/blw+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTD-eLMlaxTHg5WT21fGGTlgA6CXXbWuE4jfKbRuXsfw2pER7jdTHf61FB8_yB2yiYHGqxL1VtbaBp123a_BngSKv8tuTE5frvRUOA4tfUsfnlRgIPPM2ceTejO9mC4plBcskABiolkBY/s320/blw+2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Use the sleeve and the sleeveless upper quarter of the onesie to draw yourself a pattern. Lengthen it along as needed for your little one.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhAt3XODxjxhcOnYY44RjopeeAk3wGiz9L7V-9ABTABMd80pM0GXlJP4ORn6_a7xP5yXWcxYPno5o9s8CumwURnUaAQKRRx969TPctlQ9W8TBhWZrJK5X-_6_k03NUJ5DhbVp37uAHdSWo/s1600/Fotor052294032.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhAt3XODxjxhcOnYY44RjopeeAk3wGiz9L7V-9ABTABMd80pM0GXlJP4ORn6_a7xP5yXWcxYPno5o9s8CumwURnUaAQKRRx969TPctlQ9W8TBhWZrJK5X-_6_k03NUJ5DhbVp37uAHdSWo/s320/Fotor052294032.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div style="text-align: left;">
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
</div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div style="text-align: left;">
<div style="text-align: center;">
Using your pattern, cut out pieces for three sleeping bags. One outer sleeping bag, one cotton patting sleeping bag and one inner sleeping bag.</div>
</div>
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div style="text-align: left;">
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
</div>
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1Bu-0isvGL0tJLJzy98g5G1BD4DFzcPp3Gda5bgylMeBhX05-E7m0ifnVOF5f8Gx9pnCr98_FpcFaEKXvVpO16L513idqWigc-DvQcx2w3GCK-lXvYYAbCeR5qVmYe0WIy9iVsSTM74I/s1600/blw+5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1Bu-0isvGL0tJLJzy98g5G1BD4DFzcPp3Gda5bgylMeBhX05-E7m0ifnVOF5f8Gx9pnCr98_FpcFaEKXvVpO16L513idqWigc-DvQcx2w3GCK-lXvYYAbCeR5qVmYe0WIy9iVsSTM74I/s320/blw+5.jpg" width="232" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The next step is to put all these pieces together. However, if you want to add any applications, now is the best time to do this. Apply them on the outer sleeping bag. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
A you can see in the picture, the front of the cotton patting sleeping bag is only one piece unlike the fronts of the inner and outer sleeping bag.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It needs an opening for the zipper, though. Make a cut trough the middle, using the zipper to determine the length.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Using the zipper again to determine your distances, pin together the two front pieces of the inner and outer sleeping bag. Now, sew together.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div style="text-align: left;">
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
</div>
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<div style="text-align: left;">
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
</div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div style="text-align: left;">
<div style="text-align: center;">
Sew the shoulders together as well and apply the sleeve. Do this for the cotton patting sleeping bag as well.</div>
</div>
</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<div style="text-align: left;">
When you put the back and the front on top of each other. It should look like this:</div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Sew all three sleeping bags together and slide into one another. The right side of the outer sleeping bag should face outward. The right side of the inner sleeping bag should face inward. For the cotton patting sleeping bag both is alright.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div style="text-align: left;">
Insert the zipper. But before you do this, sew a little half circle which you turn inside out. Place the half circle over the top of the zipper to protect your little one from the sharp ends.</div>

Take one of your baby's bibs. Trace it on an old newspaper. You only need to trace half of the bib. The paper bib wil function as your sewing pattern.</div>
<div class="separator" style="-webkit-composition-fill-color: rgba(175, 192, 227, 0.230469); -webkit-composition-frame-color: rgba(77, 128, 180, 0.230469); -webkit-tap-highlight-color: rgba(26, 26, 26, 0.296875); clear: both;">

Take two different kinds of fabric. Since the bib most probably will get wet in the future, it's advisable to use at least one well absorbing fabric.</div>
<div class="separator" style="-webkit-composition-fill-color: rgba(175, 192, 227, 0.230469); -webkit-composition-frame-color: rgba(77, 128, 180, 0.230469); -webkit-tap-highlight-color: rgba(26, 26, 26, 0.296875); clear: both;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
Fold the fabric so it's double. Pin your pattern to the two layers of fabric. Make sure the side of your pattern that will be the middle of the bib later, is at the outskirt of the fabric. This is where the fabric turns over. Later, this gives you a full bib instead of only one half.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
With a needle and some marking thread, mark the pattern onto the fabric.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

Match the different pieces of fabric with each other. Make sure that the nice sides of the fabric face each other. Use the pieces of marking thread to make sure that the two different fabrics fit together perfectly.</div>

Secure the fabrics with pins, and sew them together, following the marking thread. Make sure to leave an opening of about 5 cm, so by the end you can turn the fabrics inside-out. Cut the fabric that remains next to the seam.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Take one large square of cotton, and one large square cut from a warmer and softer fabric (e.g. fleece).</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjzHx7S_R3tmhk2zctIaiHgo1XN2nN4RbOQ5jsnFZj5gWF7vmgY-zyMsUTnoKHH7DhRJ2cEKdIBirIYasnd_7n7mdsewo14eLlX5svSUzVb3MIq14I1xUk1uyRNQp1sA_URMINIQYD3pM/s1600/Patroontje.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjzHx7S_R3tmhk2zctIaiHgo1XN2nN4RbOQ5jsnFZj5gWF7vmgY-zyMsUTnoKHH7DhRJ2cEKdIBirIYasnd_7n7mdsewo14eLlX5svSUzVb3MIq14I1xUk1uyRNQp1sA_URMINIQYD3pM/s320/Patroontje.png" width="309" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Use a breakfast plate to help you to round the corners.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Place the two fabric squares on top of each other. Makes sure the right sides of the fabrics are facing each other.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Sew the two squares together. Be aware to leave one opening of about 20 cm long. Using this opening, turn the fabric inside out.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Neatly fold the opening and stitch as well.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Using your iron and a wet tea towel, press the fabric, especially at the seam.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Select one of the corners to turn into the cap. Measure 35 cm to the left and 35 cm to the right, 2 cm from outskirt. Sew this line. By doing this you'll create a little tunnel.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Make two little openings at both sides, between the outskirt of your wrapper and your new seam. Do this only in the fleece (or another warm soft fabric).</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Take 50 cm of elastic rope. Secure it at one opening with a pin. Pull the elastic rope through the little tunnel you created. Secure at both ends by sewing, while making sure the elastic is out of eyesight by closing the little opening you created.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
